COMPANY HISTORY

How We Started
The Tocchini family’s long involvement in the Western states’ film entertainment stretches back to 1926. At that time, Dan Tocchini, Sr. constructed one of the first movie theatres in Santa Rosa, California, the Strand Theatre. The Strand Theatre showed the first “talkies” in Santa Rosa. Dan Tocchini Sr. developed and operated an impressive circuit of theatres throughout Northern California, including the Rose Theatre, the Empire Theatre, and the Roxy Theatre in Santa Rosa; the El Rey Theatre and the Analy Theatre in Sebastopol; and the Mystic Theatre in Petaluma. In 1957, the senior Tocchini shifted control to his son, Daniel F. Tocchini, who added the Cal Theatre and the Parkway Auto Movies in Petaluma.

In 1972, Daniel F. Tocchini first established the theatre company that later became North American Cinemas, Inc. (NACI). North American Cinemas, initiated an aggressive plan to build a circuit of premier multiplex theatre facilities including the Rockridge Cinemas in Oakland and the Lakeside Cinemas in Santa Rosa.

Today
SR Entertainment Group is a family-run company that operates, designs, builds and renovates theatres. North American Cinemas, Inc. also “buys and books” film, manages concessions and performs other administrative functions for a growing network of motion picture theatres and independent exhibitors.

SR Entertainment Group operates many state-of-the-art megaplexes in California including: the Roxy Stadium 14 & Roxy on the Square in Santa Rosa; Airport Stadium 12 in Windsor; the Marketplace Stadium 10 in Manteca; the Lodi Stadium 12 in Lodi; the Mary Pickford Stadium 14 in Cathedral City; the Plaza Cinemas 14 in Oxnard; the Roxy Stadium 11 in Camarillo and the Horizon Stadium 9 in Laughlin, Nevada. These remarkable state of the art complexes feature large snack bars and separate cafés featuring espresso, cappuccino, and specialty foods, as well as THX & Digital Sound and giant auditoriums with wall-to-wall screens.

Unlike other major theatre chains, Dan, President and CEO, along with his wife, Amy, Secretary/Treasurer oversee a small, local office staffed with dedicated professionals. Heading up Operations is Neil Pearlmutter, VP of Operations and New Development. Administration is manned by Corporate Administrator Joe Luis and Director of Concessions Leo Tocchini. The film booking and buying department is run by Mike Timko and his assistant Caleb Dix. Accounting responsibilities are managed by Sue Cozad, Controller along with her bookkeepers, Michelle Ivashkevich, Anna Avery and Nicole McMurray. Corey Tocchini and Gwen Adkins take care of marketing and advertising. The Tocchini’s are proud of their local staff. “They are some of the finest people I have ever had the pleasure of working with,” Dan says, “They feel like family."
